New York, New York, February 13, 2009 - A recent Forbes listing of America’s largest private companies by revenue and employment helps to illustrate how effective Guardsmark has been at creating employment opportunities for more than four decades. The list includes private companies grossing $1 billion or more in annual revenue, yielding a roster of 441 companies that employ a total of 6.2 million people. With more than 19,000 team members, Guardsmark greatly exceeds the list’s average of 14,000 employees per company.
“When compiling the list, we found that service companies tend to be the largest employers of people,”?said Andrea D. Murphy, an editor at Forbes and co-author of the article. “With more than 19,000 employees, Guardsmark would be in the top one-fifth when the companies are ranked by the number of people they employ. Of the 441 companies on the list, only 73 employ more people than Guardsmark.”?
Guardsmark’s meteoric growth has made it one of the largest security companies in the world, reaching 5,000 employees in 1984, then doubling to 10,000 by 1995. The company expanded to 15,000 team members by 2000, and went on to employ more than 19,000 people by 2007.
“We have remarkable people from diverse backgrounds that enrich our company and our clients on a daily basis,” said Guardsmark Chairman Ira A. Lipman. “The sheer number of people we employ shows how special we are among companies in this country.”
