At Guardsmark, learning and development is not a one-time event. We develop our officers to their fullest capacityconsistent with both career ambitions and customer need.
We therefore not only encourage long-term retention and growth, but also efficiently equip our officers with the skills appropriate for each assignment.
All of our employees undergo the following preparation:
- Initial learning & development
Program includes extensive preparation in the fundamentals of security, using classroom, audiovisual, and computer-based instruction.
- Work environment learning
Every officer receives a minimum of four to eight hours of client-specific instruction prior to each assignmentas well as four on-site sessions with a manager or supervisor, every single month.
- Continual audiovisual learning resources
Videos are distributed to branch offices; many are site-specific, enabling continuous familiarization with client operations.
- Printed resources
All employees receive a Guardsmark Day to Day® monthly pocket calendar containing lessons on security topics; we also provide every employee with a comprehensive monthly learning series that addresses a wide range of security concerns, including access control and fire prevention.
Guardsmark focuses on promotion from within. Professionals interested in security have a defined career track and are encouraged to grow with Guardsmark; many of our managers are former security officers who have excelled.
Additionally, our career path program provides tuition assistance for college credit in approved areas of study.
Each year, Guardsmark facility managers attend a one-week management course at the Memphis Administrative Center, focusing on the latest security issues and techniques as well as crisis management, leadership and skill development.
In addition to our learning and development specialists, a talented support team at the Memphis Administrative Center develops learning materials for field personnel.”
